Castletown Hockey Club

History of Castletown Hockey Club

Introduction

The Club in its current form was established in 1988, when the two teams Celts and Southerners merged to create Castletown, which then became one of the first clubs to help form the Manx Hockey Association.

Castletown hockey club is a well established field hockey club based in the south region of the Isle of Man. The club is closely affiliated with Castle Rushen High School, it being the location of its home astro pitch and indoor facilities which are all used for training and weekly games.

Please refer to the picture below for the exact location of the school which has been highlighted in the red circle. The town square which holds the castle and local shops can be seen in the red square.

The Members

The club prides itself on its rich history and reputation as a serious but fun loving club which caters for all age ranges, skill levels and type of people who want to play hockey. No matter what previous experience or fitness levels we have a team for you.

The highly advanced and popular scheme nicknamed ‘Badgers’ caters for the youth of the club while the senior training is ran every week throughout the winter and spring months for the elder members of the club. Fitness training is run in the summer months by our team of qualified coaches to ensure people can stay fit.

Social Scene

One of the most important areas for the club is its social scene. Devised to help players relax and enjoy themselves when not tiring themselves on the hockey field, we believe that we have one of the best social scenes of any hockey club on the island and make a point to hold as many events as possible and partake in any local (or not so local) events which may occur, for example the world tin bath races and many others throughout the year.
